Guide for Authors

Description

PanEndo Journal (PanEndo J) is an international, scientific, open-access platform, a journal published in accordance with independent, unbiased, and double-blinded peer-review principles. This semi-annual publication provides clinicians access to the most intriguing clinical cases and articles in the endodontic field.

PanEndo J accepts articles allied to the scientific or applied science of Endodontics, e.g. original scientific articles, review articles, systematic reviews on selected topics, meta-analyses, case reports, clinical randomized trials, case series, and letters to the editor. The journal’s publication language is English. Two issues are released every year in January and July.

Principally, high scientific value, clinical significance, and citation potential are the most imperative measures for a manuscript to be accepted for publication.

Manuscripts submitted to PanEndo J will go through a double-blind peer-reviewing process. Each submission process will be subjected for reviewing by at least two external, liberative peer reviewers who are experts in their fields in order to guarantee an unbiased assessment process. The editorial board will invite one of the journal editors to monitor and manage the evaluation processes of manuscripts submitted by authors. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions.

Submitted manuscripts are primarily allocated with a submission code act as manuscript print and all the future contacts should be based on the code eg. (PanEndo 101).

Authorship criteria and responsibilities

Articles will not be published unless the author/s singe the copyright form to ensure that this article is an original work, has not been published before, and is not being considered for publication elsewhere in its final form either in printed or electronic form. All submissions will be subjected to a similarity detection software (iThenticate) through the technical editor. It must not exceed 20%.

Authors should consider carefully the ultimate list of authors at the time of the original submission through the Copyright and author Contribution Form. Any addition, deletion or rearrangement of author names in the authorship list should be completed only before the manuscript has been accepted and only if approved by the journal editor. To request such a modification, the Editor must receive the following from the corresponding author: (a) the reason for the change in the author list and (b) written confirmation letter from all authors that they agree with the addition, deletion or rearrangement.

Each individual listed as an author should fulfil the authorship criteria recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. (ICMJE - www.icmje.org). The ICMJE suggest that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:

  1. Significant contributions to the origin or design of the project; or the acquisition, study and interpretation of data for the work;
  2. Drafting the effort or reviewing it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. Final agreement of the version to be published;
  4. approval to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the project are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged in the title page of the manuscript. In addition to being a part of the effort he/she has completed, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the project.

PanEndo J requires corresponding authors to submit a signed and scanned form of the authorship contribution form (available for download through www. PanEndo journal .com) during the initial submission process in order to avoid any fantasy or honorary authorship. If the editorial board suspects a case of “gift authorship,” the submission will be rejected without review.

The corresponding author should also send a short declaration affirming that he/she receives all the responsibilities for authorship and takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during the manuscript submission and publication process. And typically ensures that all the journal’s administrative requirements, such as providing details of authorship, ethics committee approval, clinical trial registration documentation, and gathering conflict of interest statements, are properly completed. The corresponding author should respond to editorial queries throughout the submission and peer review process in the appropriate time, and should cooperate with any requests from the journal after publication.

Scientific and Primary Screening

The editorial team of PanEndo J will initially check the form & content of manuscripts to affirm compliance with standard structures (based on the type of study), the aim and scope of the PanEndo J, standard guidelines and adherence to ethical issues. In this step, articles would be screened in the shortest possible time. If all technical rules are met by the manuscript, the editorial process begins. Manuscripts submitted to PanEndo J which do not strictly follow the author guidelines will be returned for appropriate revision to be in line with the instructions for authors. They may then be resubmitted.

Cover Letter

The cover letter is crucial. Author(s) should specify the importance of manuscript for publishing in PanEndo J.

 Conflict of Interest

At submission, the authors must disclose any financial association that might pose a conflict of interest including financial, institutional issues, and consultant that might lead to potential bias or a conflict of interest.

Any financial grants or other support received for a submitted study from individuals or institutions should be disclosed to the Editorial Board. To disclose a potential conflict of interest, the Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (from PANENDO J.ekb.eg) should be filled in and submitted by all contributing authors.

Organization of Manuscripts

The submission file must be prepared in Microsoft Word document file format. Submissions should be double-spaced word-processing files (.docx). The top, bottom, and side margins should be 30 mm. The manuscript pages should be numbered successively at the bottom at the center.

The manuscripts must have the following sections in separate word files:

I-    Article Title page

II-   Abstract

III-    Main Article Body

IV- Copyright and author Contribution Form

  1. Article Title page

 Should be arranged as follows:

  • Title must be concise, descriptive, as short as possible without loss of clarity and without abbreviations of no more than 50 characters,
Name(s), affiliations, and highest academic degree(s) of the author(s),
  • Name, address, telephone no (including the mobile phone number), and email address of the corresponding author, (names must be mentioned only in the title page)
  • Acknowledgment of the individuals who contributed to the preparation of the manuscript but who do not fulfill the authorship criteria. e.g. editing help and departmental head who provided general support. Financial support must also be acknowledged.
  1. Abstract:it should be submitted with all submissions except for Letters to the Editor. The abstract of Original Articles should be structured with the following subheadings (Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion).

Keywords: Each submission essentially be accompanied by a minimum of three to a maximum of six keywords for subject indexing at the end of the abstract. The keywords should be listed in full without abbreviations. The keywords should be carefully chosen from the National Library of Medicine, Medical Subject Headings database (https://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html).

  1. Main article Body
  1. Introduction:

The introduction should precisely provide relevant background information in order to identify the gap in knowledge that the study is proposed to address, the limitations of previous studies in the area if present and the latest advances. Finally, the author must clearly state the tested hypothesis and its scope.  Authors should realize that this section of the paper is their primary opportunity to establish communication with the various readership of the PanEndo J.

  1. Materials and Methods:

should describe in details the materials used and their components, the study design, the procedures used, and the statistical tests employed to analyze the results. The vast majority of manuscripts should cite prior studies using similar methods and concisely describe the essential aspects used in the present study. The inclusion of a “methods figure” will be rejected unless the procedure is novel and requires an illustration for comprehension.

Ethical considerations should be mentioned here. Articles that require informed consent should acknowledge related statements in this section.

Human and Animal Rights:

  • All patients and volunteers in a research project must be carefully informed about the aims of the research, nature of the procedure, and any possible side effects or complications of the drugs/materials and interventions.
  • Written informed consent from the participants or their legal guardians is necessary for any such studies. All patients who participated in the experimental investigation and subjects should be able to freely withdraw from the study any time without restrictions.
  • If animals are used: a statement protocol approval by the official animal care and use committee must be included. All animal experiments should comply with the guidelines. Manuscripts may be rejected if the editor considers that the research has not been carried out within an appropriate ethical skeleton. In rare cases, the editor may contact the ethics committee for further information.
  1. Results: experimental results are suitable in this section (i.e., neither materials and methods, discussion, nor conclusions should be in this section). Include only those data that are critical for the experiment, as demarcated by the aim(s). in the same way, not include all available data without justification; any repetitive findings will be rejected from publication.

Figures (illustrations) & tables: should be numbered and cited in the text in accordance to its presence along the manuscript. Illustrations (digital photographs/radiographs, CT scans, etc.) must be submitted as either a TIFF or JPEG and be at a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Tables are applicable when it is critical to present exact numeric values. However, not all results are essential to be placed in either a table or figure.

Discussion: should be used to explain and interpret the findings & results. Both the strengths and weaknesses of the observations should be cleared together with agreement and disagreement on previous investigations. How do these findings compare to the published literature? What are the clinical implications? A perfectly, well clear review of the potential clinical significance is the last section of the discussion. What are the major conclusions of the study? How does the data support these conclusions?

Conclusions:  this section should describe and summarize the major outcome(s) of the study.

References: All references must be cited in the text, using the Vancouver style (numbered style). References should be marked in order of appearance with superscript numbers in parenthesis () in the text, and listed numerically in the reference list at the end of the manuscript. Do not include unpublished data or personal communication belief in this section.

Provide complete information for each reference, including names of all authors (up to six). If the reference is a part of a book, also include the title of the chapter name/s of the book’s editor/s

Statistics

All manuscript selected for publication will be reviewed for the precision of the statistical approaches used and the interpretation of statistical results. All articles submitted to PanEndo J should provide in their “Materials and Methods” section, a statement detailing the statistical methods, including the specific way used to summarize the data, the methods used to test their hypothesis testing and (if any) the level of significance used for hypothesis testing.

  1. Copyright and author Contribution Form

Authors should sign a copyright and author contribution form (URL) Copyright and author Contribution Form cleared that the article is an original work, demonstrating every author's role, has not been published before and is not being considered for publication elsewhere in its final form either in printed or electronic form. The same research must not be published in more than one journal.

Manuscript Types

Original Articles: This is the most significant type of article since it provides new information based on original research. The main text of original articles should be structured with Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions subheadings. Please check Table 1 for the restrictions for Original Articles.

Statistical analysis to support conclusions is usually necessary. Statistical analyses must be conducted in accordance with international statistical reporting standards (Altman DG, Gore SM, Gardner MJ, Pocock SJ. Statistical guidelines for contributors to medical journals. Br Med J 1983: 7; 1489-93). Information on statistical analyses should be provided with a separate subheading under the Materials and Methods section and the statistical software that was used during the process must be specified. Units should be prepared in accordance with the International System of Units (SI).

Review Articles: Reviews on free selected articles prepared by authors who have a thorough knowledge on a particular field and whose scientific background has been translated into a high volume of publications with a high citation potential are welcomed. These authors may also be invited by the journal. Reviews should illustrate, discuss, and assess the current level of knowledge of a topic in clinical endodontic practice and should guide future studies. The main article should contain Introduction, Clinical and research consequences, and conclusion sections. Please check Table 1 for the limitations for Review Articles.

Case Reports and Literature of Review: There is limited space for case reports in the journal and reports on rare cases or conditions that constitute challenges in diagnosis and treatment, those offering new therapeutic approaches or revealing knowledge not included in the literature, and interesting and educative case reports are accepted for publication. The text should include Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, and Conclusion subheadings. Please check Table 1 for the limitations of Case Reports.

Letters to the Editor: This type of manuscript discusses important parts, overlooked aspects, or lacking parts of a previously published article. Articles on subjects within the scope of the journal that might attract the readers’ attention, particularly educative cases, may also be submitted in the form of a “Letter to the Editor.” Readers can also present their comments on the published manuscripts in the form of a “Letter to the Editor.” Abstract, Keywords, and Tables, Figures, Images, and other media should not be included. The text should be unstructured. The manuscript that is being commented on must be properly cited within this manuscript.
